Here I stand

Honesty, Authenticity and Conscience

February 4th, 2017

1.30pm – 7.30pm

Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church

Dacres Road, Forest Hill , SE23 2NR

In an era being described as ‘post-truth’, what does it mean to be honest? In an age where forms of media have become a fact of everyday life for many through digital technology, what does it mean to be authentic?

These contemporary questions have precedents lying at the centre of the Protestant Reformation, currently celebrating its quincentennial year, which sought ultimately to uncover the honest and authentic heart of Christianity. Luther famously claimed his conscience had led him to state: ‘Here I stand, I can do no other’, in a statement which echoes the approach of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who sought honesty, authenticity and conscientious conviction in a society where truth had lost all meaning.

Join us as we explore these themes and figures and contemplate perennial questions of human life: how to be honest, authentic, and true to conscience, in everyday life.

Im Februar 2013 wurde der erste Bonhoeffer Day an der Dietrich Bonhoeffer Kirche unter dem Titel "in Prayer and Righteous Action. Bonhoeffer´s Spirituaity and Ethics" veranstaltet.
